So, I’d planned to do a whole lot better job of blogging consistently in 2011, but as you can see, I’ve failed miserably thus far.  Fortunately, I have another 6 months to repent of my laziness and do a much better job.

2011 has been a pretty exciting year for us thus far and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.  A quick recap of some of this year’s highlights include:

BeachTrip_2011
An early-morning view from the beach house.
  • We found out in April that we’ll be adding to the family later this year. We’re expecting a little boy in mid-November and we couldn’t be more excited about it.Once the excitement wore off, we quickly realized that we’d have to eventually name the little man and thank goodness we still have a few more months to decide on a name because we’ll need every bit of time available.
  • Sharon’s partnered up with another gal in her real estate office to form Real Estate Carolina Group and they’ve been tearing it up ever since. While real estate overall continues to be more down than up, the Fort Mill SC real estate market has been pretty active and they’ve really had a great year.
  • My business has shifted focus slightly from helping local businesses market themselves better, we’re now focused on marketing for dentists and dental specialist.  It’s been a slower than hoped for transition, but the results and clients are starting to come and the second half of 2011 and beyond is looking very promising.
  • The little girl graduated from 5th grade a few months ago and is looking forward to middle school.  She enjoyed her focus on art and was in the school’s musical theater presentation.  She’s really looking forward to turning 12 in a few months so she can graduate from Primary and join the Young Women’s organization. I also setup a blog for her for Christmas and even though she’s been as consistent as I have, she enjoys working on it when she gets a chance.
  • The little man continues to keep us all on our toes and keeps us wondering what he’d do without some type of electronic device.  He got his Bear badge in Cub Scouts earlier this year and is working on the rest of his badges so he can move up to Boy Scouts in another year.  He’s super-excited about having a little brother to pick on and we’re excited to watch him with his little bro.
  • We spent a week at the beach about a month ago with some very good friends and had an amazing time being totally lazy. The houses we stayed at were right on the beach so it was pretty much wake up, walk out the beach, hang out in the sun, sand, and surf all day, go to bed, and then start it all over.  Needless to say, it was a much needed and very enjoyable week.

Overall, we’ve been incredibly blessed in 2011 and we’re excited about what the rest of this year will bring. It hasn’t all been a big party, but we recognize that the ups and downs are a part of life and we’re trying to enjoy the ride as much as possible.

Thanksgiving and Stuff

by chestin on November 26, 2010

So it’s the day after Thanksgiving and there isn’t a whole lot going on.  Half of Wednesday was spent prepping food for the Turkey Day feast, yesterday was spent traveling to and feasting with Sharon’s family up in Winston-Salem NC, and we’d hoped to get all the leaves racked up today, but since it’s drizzly outside that’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

As a result, it’s looking like a pretty lazy day, which actually isn’t a bad thing.  We haven’t had one of those in a while.

One advantage of a day like today though is that it gives me a chance to sit back and reflect on a lot things, especially those things I’m thankful for.  And not that this is a complete list, but these are just a few of the things I’m thankful for:

  • My wonderful wife that works hard and puts up with me and all my faults.
  • My kids that keep me young and keep life interesting.
  • My relationship with my Heavenly Father and for all his patients wit my shortcomings and weaknesses.
  • My Savior Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice on my behalf.
  • My parents for all the things they’ve talk me, given me, and put up with over the years.
  • My in-laws for raising a strong, independent, and faithful daughter.
  • This great country which we live in and for the freedoms we enjoy ( at least for now).
  • All the men and women of the armed services who make great sacrifices so my family and I can enjoy the freedoms and blessings of this great country.
  • The opportunity I have to follow my dream and build my own business.  Plus, a family that is willing to go along for the roller-coaster ride.
  • All of my wonderful clients that have put their trust in me and my abilities to help them grow.
  • The great outdoors and the beauty it has to offer.
  • Good friends that make life a whole lot easier and more enjoyable.
  • Tuesday night flag football which helps me stay young.  Thankful for my team too which allows the ‘old guy’ to run with them!
  • DVR which allows me to watch my favorite shows on my schedule.
  • Netflix and their streaming movies. Nothing beats being able to ‘shop’ for movies at the movie store from the couch.
  • Sleeping in on Saturday mornings.
  • Yeast rolls, and not just on Thanksgiving.  Any day of the year is good!
  • PW’s ice cream shop.  It’s a little joint around the corner from our house that makes THE BEST homemade ice cream, sundaes and shakes.
  • My South Carolina Gamecocks FINALLY making it to the SEC Championship game.  Now if they can just go out and beat Auburn I’ll have even more to be thankful for!
  • Next NFL season because this season is pretty much over for my Carolina Panthers.  I guess I could be thankful they’ll be getting the 1st pick in the draft, but that remains to be seen.
  • Facebook and the connections it’s allowed me to make with family and old friends I thought I’d never see again.
  • My Droid Incredible phone which allows me to check my fantasy football team stats anywhere, anytime.
  • My iPad which lets me take a whole bookshelf worth of books and videos to read or watch anytime, anywhere.
  • A lazy day like today that allows me to think and reflect upon all the many, MANY blessings I have in my life.

So, what’re you thankful for?

Maple Bacon Donuts…MMMMMMM

April 10, 2010

Okay, I checked in yesterday via FourSquare (a pretty cool new social networking and local exploration tool) and mentioned that I was buying stuff to make maple bacon donuts. The update posted to my Facebook status and not the least bit surprising, I had a couple of people comment asking if I’d suddenly gone ‘Homer […]

This Proves That Global Warming Must Be Real!

February 13, 2010

So, as most of you know we live in beautiful Rock Hill SC, which for the most part enjoys a pretty moderate temperature during the winter months.  I’ve been here in the Charlotte area for almost 10 years now and we’re usually good for one decent winter storm every year.  This year however, has been […]

I Guess It’s Time We Get Back Online!

December 29, 2009

As 2009 is winding down, I’ve been going through my customary process of reviewing the past year and making plans for the upcoming year.  As I was doing that this past weekend, I was actually quite surprised at everything we’d done, both as a family and individually. As I was reliving some of the moments […]
