Okay, I checked in yesterday via FourSquare (a pretty cool new social networking and local exploration tool) and mentioned that I was buying stuff to make maple bacon donuts. The update posted to my Facebook status and not the least bit surprising, I had a couple of people comment asking if I’d suddenly gone ‘Homer Simpson’.

So, I decided I’d better explain AND share the results of my experiment.

Maple Bacon Donuts as Seen on Food NetworkThe other night I was watching one of my favorite shows on the Food Network called ‘The Best Thing I Ever Ate‘.  This particular episode was about all things bacon and one of the profiles was on these maple bacon donuts.

As every guy knows, bacon is the ultimate man food. And when paired with a light, fluffy donut with maple glaze…mmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, I thought it sounded good and wanted to try it.  I mean we’ve all had breakfast where we swirled our bacon in the leftover maple syrup from the pancakes, right? So why not recreate that flavor experience in a one-dish-wonder?

So last night I tried my hand at my maple bacon donuts and I must say, they turned out pretty good. I found the recipe online, made a few tweaks, and had a go at it.

They turned out pretty light and fluffy, not Krispy Kreme-esque, but definitely light.  I wasn’t crazy about the maple glaze recipe I used and I’ll most likely use a different one next time, but it wasn’t horrible either. And when you put it in your mouth, it has such a deep flavor profile and they definitely give you that ’swirl your bacon in leftover maple syrup’ experience I was hoping for.

So for all those wondering, I guess I do have a little Homer Simpson in me because I’ll DEFINITELY be making these again in the future!

So, as most of you know we live in beautiful Rock Hill SC, which for the most part enjoys a pretty moderate temperature during the winter months.  I’ve been here in the Charlotte area for almost 10 years now and we’re usually good for one decent winter storm every year.  This year however, has been different.

For the 3rd weekend in a row we’ve had a pretty decent sized winter storm, complete with some nasty precipitation.  In fact, we got so much ice and snow three weeks ago that church was canceled. Last weekend it caused Sharon and I to make the decision to cancel our trip to run in the Krispy Kreme Challenge.

This weekend, who knows what will be canceled, but given the way these Southerners freak out over a little snow, I’m sure something will be canceled or postponed.  As someone that grew up in North Dakota and Wyoming, I find it a little comical, but heh, if it means I have an excuse to stay home and be lazy I’ll take it!

As 2009 is winding down, I’ve been going through my customary process of reviewing the past year and making plans for the upcoming year.  As I was doing that this past weekend, I was actually quite surprised at everything we’d done, both as a family and individually.

As I was reliving some of the moments and experiences in my head, I was a tad bit sad when it hit me that the only place I really had any record of these memorable moments was in fact, inside my thick skull.  And as far too many of you know, it’s a rather difficult chore to try and retrieve things once they get stuck there!

So, one of my goals for 2010 is to do a better job of recording all of our triumphs, challenges, surprises, and just overall memorable moments.  I also figured that since most of my  family doesn’t live anywhere close to us that I needed to do something to share these moments with them as well.

As a result, the 2nd incarnation of the ‘Sharon and Chestin’ website is born.  We did it once before as a way to show the wedding proposal video I did for Sharon, but it become completely neglected and at one point was totally screwed up thanks to my constant tinkering.  I’ve had the domain name for a while and now thanks to my Host Gator account that allows me to host multiple websites without having to pay hosting for each one individually, I figured now was as good a time as any to bring this puppy back to life.

So, over the next year (and hopefully beyond that!) you’ll be able to peek in on our mostly dull and boring lives.  Sharon is a successful real estate agent with Keller Williams here in the Rock Hill SC/Fort Mill SC area.  She’s only been in a the business a little over 2 years and she’s already top 10 in an office that has some pretty high earners and teams.

I do a lot of her marketing and whether she realizes it or not, my goal for her is to break into the top 5 for her office in 2010.  That means she’ll have a lot of work to do, but I don’t know anyone that’s as focused and dedicated to helping her clients as she is.  I have no doubt that she’ll be able to close the business if I can just bring it to her, so when it comes right down to it, the burden really falls on my shoulders.

As far as I’m concerned, I’d describe myself as a serial entrepreneur.  I have my own marketing firm where I consult, coach, and basically help other small businesses generate qualified leads and new customers for their business. I do a lot of Internet marketing for both myself and my clients, and that really means quite a few things, but basically I specialize in using the Internet to help my clients grow their business.

What that means for you is that you’ll probably see some crazy links every now and then and maybe even some banner ads for a particular product or service I’m promoting.  Even though the purpose of this site is to give everyone a peek into our lives, it will also be part of my laboratory of marketing ’stuff’ so  whether you like it or not, by coming here you’re volunteering to be a test subject.

Don’t worry though, there won’t be any needles involved.  I promise!

Now, I’m going to try to get Sharon to post stuff periodically, but if her track record at posting stuff on her real estate website is any indication, you may not hear from her very often.  Hopefully if enough people tell her they read our new family blog, that will provide a little motivation to post every once in a while.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by, check back frequently, and feel free to leave your comments whenever you like.  I can’t promise we’ll always respond, but the chances are pretty good we’ll definitely see them!
